DAY 3 OF 7

LOOK for Treasure

Why is it that I can watch endless hours of Netflix, but the thought of opening my Bible for just 5 minutes feels so hard?

Netflix offers quick-fix treasure: easy to digest, no effort required, on-demand. It promises much, but six episodes later…am I really satisfied?

Proverbs 2 v 4 likens Bible-reading to a treasure hunt: “Search for [wisdom] as for hidden treasures”. Real treasure hunting is hard work. I remember searching for a gold wedding ring on the beach once! Hard work, but so satisfying when you finally find what you’re looking for.

If we take the time to search through a Bible passage prayerfully and carefully, God promises we will find wisdom. Truly satisfying wisdom.

Lord | As you read Genesis 1 v 1, ask the Lord to help you find treasure.

Look | First look for treasure about God. Then look for glimpses of Christ (if you’re stuck, think about his power over creation e.g. the calming of the storm that shows he is God). Lastly, look for treasure about yourself – where perhaps you have slipped into thinking in the beginning, me.

Pick ONE idea that you found striking. Text it to yourself. Throughout the day come back to it, asking God to help you live it and love it.
