The Heart of God Towards the Poor and SufferingSample
Our prayer for you as a result of this devotional is that it would change your perspective of compassion ministry and ultimately, move you to serve others in a truly profound way. Much prayer has been put into this reading plan with the hope that we would all remember the poor on a daily basis. That our thoughts of the poor would move us to do something to serve the needy.
Why are you and I still on the Earth if we are saved? It can only be assumed that we are still here because God wants to use us to help other people. Our lives are not our own and we must all surrender our will for the will of God.
We have seen over the last two weeks that compassion is an action; that it means to “suffer with.” We have seen that to show compassion is to get involved with the uncomfortable, the unlovely and the messy. We have learned that it will require much from us.
We unraveled that God relates to the poor and that Jesus takes it personally how we treat the underserved. He desires to use us to help those in need. Remember how much God has done for you and that to know God, we must serve the suffering.
Let us be Christians who are others-centered and realize that what we have in our hands is actually God’s to be used however He desires. Let us be willing to give of everything we have so that others would not lack. Ask God what you can do and honor others while doing that very service. Let us be practical and deliberate in our service, pouring out everything we have and watching God fill us with His everlasting water. And ultimately, may we be people who let God shine through our lives!
