Seeing Through The Eyes Of God 

In Deuteronomy, Moses was talking to many who did not witness the first Passover or the difficulties in Egypt. The Passover was a significant event in the life of the Israelites. As we all know, the Passover was a foreshadow to the death of Jesus on the cross. So how is it relevant to those of us living today. 

The more I read the scriptures, I can liken my life on earth to that of Israelite journey from Egypt to the Promised land. Our Egypt is the present world we live that is tarnished by sin. I am under the oppression of sin, just like the Israelites were under the hand of Pharaoh. The Israelites by killing the Passover lamb and applying the blood on the doorpost protected themselves from the angel of death. I protect myself from eternal death by acknowledging and accepting Jesus's blood on the cross for my sins. 

Some who were saved in Egypt never entered the promised land. With every sin, the Israelites committed those involved died. It confirms the verse, “The wages of sin is death”. However, we have the example of Joshua and Caleb. What did they do differently from the other Israelites? They believed God's promises and were willing to see the situation through the eyes of God. That is the call for each one of us in our Christian walk. When Joshua and Caleb went to spy the Promised land, they could see how God would help them conquer the land. Unlike their fellow Israelites, they did not focus on the real practical difficulties they saw. 

Isn't it the same in a believer’s life? God wants us to live a life apart from sin, focusing on God, living a life trusting His promises. Our promised inheritance is eternal life in Christ Jesus. With this attitude when we read the rest of the passage, the laws given by Moses helps us to follow Christ's command to Love God with all our heart, mind and soul and to love our neighbor as our self. In our Christian walk, let us choose to learn from the mistakes of the Israelites and walk with our eyes focused on Christ doing what He wants us to do.
