Why We Need God’s Word

DAY 4 OF 7

God’s Word Comforts Us

‘Your promise revives me; it comforts me in all my troubles.’ - Psalm 119:50 NLT

When we're in pain, we can stand on God’s Word. Sometimes God lifts us out of our situation. Other times, He carries us through and makes us stronger by proving His love and faithfulness to us. Sometimes, He relieves us of the pain; other times He sustains us in the middle of it. When we're in pain we need to fill our minds with verses from the Bible which remind us that God's with us. Some verse we could stand on include: 'Your promise revives me; it comforts me in all my troubles'; 'Let your unfailing love comfort me, just as you promised me, your servant. Surround me with your tender mercies so I may live' (vv.76-77 NLT); 'Turn to me and have mercy, for I am alone and in deep distress. My problems go from bad to worse. Oh, save me from them all! Feel my pain and see my trouble' (Psalm 25:16-18); 'The LORD hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. The LORD is close to the broken-hearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. The righteous person faces many troubles, but the LORD comes to the rescue each time. For the LORD protects the bones of the righteous; not one of them is broken!' (Psalm 34:17-20 NLTUK); 'Heal me, LORD, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise.' (Jeremiah 17:14 NIV). God's promises revive and comfort us in all of our troubles. Whether our pain is physical or emotional, there's no limit to the number of times we can read and reflect on these verses. The more we spend time reading them, the easier it'll be to remember them when we're struggling to keep trusting God through our pain.

What Now?

Do you know someone who is in pain today (either physical or emotional)? Choose a Bible verse about God's comfort and send it to them.
