[Confident Series] Confidence In PrayerSample
Pray out of Relationship
Every Christian wants to be a stronger prayer warrior. We want to pray more. We want to see answers to our prayers. Every one of us wants to be confident in what we pray for. However, we are often all over the place in our prayer. We pray for something; then, we get bored and start praying for something else. Sometimes, we do not know when our prayers will get answered. How do we pray with confidence and see God move as we pray?
According to LifeWay Research, Americans believe in prayer:
- 83% of Americans think that their prayers are answered
- 65% of people say that they pray, at least, once a month
- 48% of Americans say they pray every day
- 35% say that they pray several times a day
The more important question is what we pray about. The answer is that 74% of us pray about our own problems. Our prayers are very self-centered.
How does God want us to pray? How can we pray confidently? The Bible promises us that we can pray with confidence knowing that God hears us. This confidence comes from having eternal life. Eternal life means that we placed our faith in Jesus as our Saviour and asked Him to live inside of us. In other words, eternal life is a relationship with God. That is why the apostle John says, in the Scriptures, that he wants us to know that we have eternal life. Eternal life brings a prayerful life. Once we have eternal life, our prayer life becomes a relationship with God. He hears us because He has a relationship with us. He is our Father who cares for us and wants to answer our prayers.
This knowledge changes the content of our prayers. We can become less self-centered and more God-centered. Not only do we want our problems to be resolved, but we also want to know God more. Eternal life gives us a relationship with God, and we can grow in this relationship through prayer. By reading God’s Word and praying, we can learn the character of God.
Direct your prayers towards relationship and surrender. Let your prayer life be dedicated to knowing the Lord better, knowing His character, and His heart towards you. Once you know His heart through prayer, you will discern His will for you. Then, you will be able to pray with greater confidence.
