Lamb of God

DAY 3 OF 7

Atonement

I am going to take you to seminary school to teach you a big spiritual term. Here it is: substitutionary atonement. Jesus was the Substitute who atoned or paid, for your sins. You and I were going to have to pay for them. It was either going to be our death or Jesus’ death. He is the Substitute who died to pay for our sins and atone for it.

Another big, theological word is this: propitiation. Jesus was the Payment for our sin. You do not have to bring a lamb and offer it up on the altar at the temple. The Lamb was slain on the cross. Jesus was the Substitute so that we could place our faith in Him. That is how our lives are made pure: through the blood that was shed for you and me. Now, think of the price that He paid. He paid an amazing, incredible price to buy you back. To redeem us, the price was His life.

I am from Houston, Texas. If you didn’t know, Houston has an awesome rodeo every year. It is well organized. There is a livestock show where people bring animals from their farms and sell them for hundreds of thousands of dollars. The grand champion lamb this year broke a world record. The exhibitor, only 16 years old, came from Cleburne, Texas, and sold it to a couple for $300,000. A grand champion lamb with a world-record price. I know a portion always goes to scholarships, but still, that is a lot of money. Yet, Jesus paid even more, far more than hundreds of thousands of dollars. He gave His life as the Grand Champion of all grand champions... He is the grand champion Lamb of all lambs. He is the Lamb of God, slain to pay for your sin and my sin. He bought us back. The Lord of lords and the King of kings loved you so much that He gave His life on the cross so that you and I could experience the forgiveness that comes when we trust Jesus Christ as our Savior.

Have you trusted Him as your Savior? Have you placed your faith in Christ’s death to be on your behalf, so that His life could live through you and you could be assured of eternal life? He is the substitutionary Atonement and the Propitiation. He paid for your sin by being the Lamb that was slain. Trust in Him.

About this Plan

Lamb of God

Through the Old Testament, we learn that people would take their lambs as a sacrificial offering to cover up their sins. Jesus came to take away the sin of the world. As followers of Christ, if we place our trust and faith in Him, our sins are forgiven and forgotten. We now can live righteously through Jesus!
