21 Days of Moving Toward GodSample
Day 15: Prayer in the Waiting
We live in a culture that despises waiting. We want our food fast, our checkout lines sorted and available, our traffic to move at a quick pace, and our two-day shipping. We don’t like to wait in line and, if we’re honest, we don’t like to wait on God. When we are waiting for a life-altering situation to resolve, it’s easy to think something is wrong. Doubt can creep in as we wonder where God’s goodness is. When we are waiting, we can choose to let our emotions and thoughts run wild or we can submit them to God through prayer. We can enter an active waiting state in lieu of a passive one. God invites us to spend time with Him. He is relational before He is transactional or directional. His greatest desire is to be with us.
We see an example of Moses waiting in Exodus 24. God invites Moses to spend time with Him on the mountain. They are together six days before God gives Him any instruction. The instruction and direction are important, but God wants to spend time with us first. The waiting season causes us to slow down, spend time with God, and listen.
Our waiting is active as we learn to be still, to quiet our wrestling, to allow God to grow the parts of us that stay hidden in the hustle. The waiting allows us to replace our to-do lists with His. God’s to-do list is the fruit of the Spirit. He uses waiting seasons to grow this in us. What is God growing in you today?
When we move, patience happens.
