New to Faith: Allowing God to Transform Your Life

DAY 2 OF 5

Your True Identity

Do you equate what you do to who you truly are? Your job, your economic status, the family that you were born into? Most people anchor who they are on what they have. But you have now been able to discover your true identity as a son or daughter of the One True God.

The church my dad brought us to after he came to faith houses a ministry called Compassion International. This ministry sponsors children living in poverty and helps release them from that poverty in Jesus’ name. I was welcomed into the program as a seven-year-old. That same year, a man from Australia sponsored me.

In the first letter I received from him, he told me, “Kiwi, you are a pretty person and Jesus loves you.” And what an amazing thing it was to hear. I had never thought of myself as pretty. I thought that word was only meant for children who were dressed nicely and had their hair beautifully made up.

But the word of God says in Psalm 139:14: “I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are you works; my soul knows it very well.”

I begin to realize, as I listened to God’s Word in church and Sunday school, that I am beautiful in the sight of the Lord. I am a child of the one true God! My faith grew as I continuously listened to God’s Word. I am an heir of God’s kingdom. Even though I was born poor, I have an inheritance in Christ Jesus. And so do you!

Sometimes it’s hard to believe that we are children of the Most High God. To learn to understand who we are in Christ, it is important to be in God’s Word all the time.

Romans 10:17 says, “Faith comes from hearing and hearing God’s word.” Find a good Bible-based, Jesus-worshipping church that will help guide you in your walk in Christ.

Prayer: God, what a joy and a privilege to be called Your heir and Your child! Help me to build my faith as I walk into this truth. Whatever my past or my present situation is, that doesn’t define me. I will only believe who you say I am. Please send people to encourage me and speak truth in my life so that doubt and lies will not sway me in believing in my true identity.
