In 1 Timothy 2 Paul writes a letter to his young disciple Timothy, telling him to teach the church in Ephesus to pray. One of the facets of prayer that Paul highlights, is praying for those in positions of power over the nation. He tells Timothy to teach the people to pray for the kings of the nation.
There is an important principle here. Paul believes that the prayers of ordinary believers have an effect on the lives of people they have no contact with. God wants us, the Church, to pray for specific things. God wants to impact society. God wants to transform lives. And He has ordained that one of the ways that this happens is through prayer. God chooses to partner with us. We are co-labourers with Christ.
As we said yesterday, God knows what our country needs, but He calls His followers to pray for His will to be done on earth.
Dig in:
Try and think of some of the needs in your country. Think about the needs of your city. Allow God to speak to you about your immediate surroundings. Is there something God is calling you to pray for? What is His will for your city? Pray into it! God wants you to partner with Him in impacting our cities and nations.
