Nowhere is this better portrayed than in Jesus’s interactions with John the Baptist. John was an odd figure to say the least. Aside from maintaining a diet of locusts and wild honey, he also struggled with fashion issues, sporting a garment of camel hair, a leather belt, and a pair of sandals. Imagine a guest looking like that showing up at your church one Sunday morning. Truth be told, if he were alive today, he’d have a hard time landing a job in any American pulpit. Can you see the Twitter feed, “#whatswiththeguyinthecamelhairapparel?”

John still had what some may say was a flaw in his faith, a crack in his character. You see John was also a doubter. Wait. What? Are you serious? You mean to tell me John the Baptist had a bout with doubt? Absolutely. That’s because it’s easy to be bold and confident when you’re free. Wait until your head is about to the go to the chopping block and see what happens. Having been imprisoned for challenging Herod’s unlawful marriage, John knew his time was short. As the hourglass was running empty, John slipped into a state of panic spelled D-O-U-B-T.
