DAY 9 OF 10

Faith Under Construction

When leaders recognize that they are in the right place and time for God to show up in His way and time, for His glory and their good, that they are to pray earnestly and expectantly, wait upon Him with patience, and take the next clear step, see God surrounding them and let Him work in His way, then they are ready to see what God is most interested in—the building up of their faith.

Moses tells us several important things in these two verses. First, the little word “so” tells us that because of what God did, parting the Red Sea ”that day” (He did it His way in His time), He saved Israel (He kept His promise to the nation). “They saw” (eyewitness proof of God at work) “the Egyptians dead on the seashore” —the result of God’s protection and mercy on the nation. Thus, Moses recounted the historical event.

Now Moses tells us what God was really after: “The people feared the Lord and believed the Lord and His servant Moses.” They feared and believed. The word feared means to have awe and respect or to be worthy of trust and faith. In other words, they saw the Lord in all of His glory and because of that, they believed. Notice the progression of the nation: They saw Him work, they were in awe of Him, and they believed. Every time God works on our behalf in an Exodus Experience, are we awed by His work and then do we believe more deeply in Him and trust Him more readily?

When we believe what the Lord has said to us (as Mary did when the angel visited her in the gospel of Luke), and we are persuaded that God has the power to do what He said (as Paul tells us in Romans), and believe it will happen as He said (as we see in Acts numerous times), then we see our faith grow. Ken Gire says in his book, At Peace in the Storm, “While we are looking for rescue, He is looking for faith.” Hebrews 11 unfolds the list of people who exhibited great faith in the Scriptures. Perhaps when we are tested in an Exodus Experience it is one of God’s gracious ways of deepening our faith. Remember that FAITH means “For All I Trust Him.”

About this Plan

[Exodus Experience Series] Exodus Experience Devotions

Many times, we go through situations similar to the Exodus Experience. God uses these moments to develop patience in us, prayer, dependence on Him, a servant mentality, praise, and blessing. This equips us to overcome challenges, difficulties, struggles, and failures. And at the end of the process, we end up being a much better leader. Join us to discover everything we can learn from God in the Exodus Experience.
