Drama (And How to Deal)

DAY 3 OF 5

More-Than-Friends Drama

Okay, it’s time for a different kind of drama. We’ve talked about friend drama. That kind of drama can hurt. But forgiveness is the glue that holds friendships together.

Today, you’re learning about more-than-friends drama. You guessed it. The person who gives you butterflies in your stomach. The person whose attention you want more than anyone else’s. That person. Some of the drama comes with the question, “Is it okay for me to be romantically interested in someone at my age?” And there are a million other questions, for sure.

You have questions, and you need answers that aren’t sugar-coated. You need Quizman! Watch this video for more on the kind of drama that special someone can create in your life.

Talk with a trusted adult like a parent. There doesn’t have to be drama surrounding your completely natural feelings of being attracted to someone! It’s totally okay. God made you to start noticing others and developing crushes. But what do you do about it? Is it okay to start, um, dating? Yikes!

Remember what Quizman said.

  1. Talk to a parent! You can do it! Then, respect their answer. They are given to you by God to help you stay safe—body, mind, and spirit. If they say it’s too early to start hanging around with your crush or having them over to your house, then respect their boundaries.
  2. Go. Slow. You have a lot of life ahead of you. No need to rush anything. No need to have a boyfriend or girlfriend at all. Take your time.

So, tomorrow, you’re going to learn a little more about what to do with the drama that surrounds the “more-than-friend” people in your life. Because, what if you can’t stop thinking about that certain someone? What if you think you’re ready to date, but your parents say you aren’t? And what if you just can’t seem to get the attention of that person? Ahh! Drama!

No worries. Tomorrow you’ll learn more about how to deal.

Ask yourself: How will I know when I’m ready to start dating someone? What did my parent(s) say?

Challenge yourself: Have a discussion with your parent(s) this week. Ask them when they started dating. Ask if it was a good thing or a bad thing for them to start dating when they did. Ask them when they think you might be ready to date and what it would look like. Be sure not to fight what they say. Accept their answers and trust that God gives parents wisdom on what’s best for their children.

Pray: God, thank You for placing parents and other trusted adults in my life. Help me to listen to their wisdom. Help me not to get too caught up in what others think of me, either. You are the most important person in my life, and I want to live a life that pleases You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
