DAY 48 OF 365

A Convenient Gospel?

Acts 24:24-25
“Several days later Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was a Jewess. He sent for Paul and listened to him as he spoke about faith in Christ Jesus. As Paul discoursed on righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and said, ‘That’s enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you.”

What was Paul’s job as a prisoner for Jesus Christ?

To clearly testify to the gospel, whether before kings and governors or guards and servants, Paul’s focus was always faith in Jesus Christ. In Christ is found righteousness, the power of the Spirit to resist sin and self-centered living, and in Christ is our hope of forgiveness and eternal reward before the throne of God’s judgment. This clarity of the testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ, accompanied by the conviction of the Holy Spirit was too much for the governor, Felix. He preferred a convenient gospel on his own terms.

What king of gospel are we presenting before those in authority?

Are we interested in God’s favor or man’s?

Paul had everything to lose by presenting a clear gospel of the conviction of sin, yet he did not shy away from that call. May we be as bold as we live on mission with Jesus.

Lord Jesus, may you boldly testify through me this day of your life-transforming gospel, regardless of the cost.
