In My Feelings

DAY 5 OF 5

DAY 5 - We are Better Together

Psychologist Dr Robyn Tamblyn conducted a study in 2014, where she prescribed 100 people medication.

After a full term of the prescriptions, Dr Tamblyn conducted interviews with each of the 100 participants.

In her findings, she astonishingly found only one third of the participants actually finished the prescription.

However, then she conducted this study on 100 participants with consistently giving their pets prescription medication.

Her findings were fascinating.

99% of her participants finished the full prescription on their pets.

The participants were significantly better at consistently giving medication to their pets, than giving themselves medication. The irony is it may even benefit the pet more if the owner took their medication.

Most people would do far more for others, than they ever would for themselves.

We truly are better together.

In our Young Adult ministry, we have a statement where we believe that “No-one is left Behind”, based off The Story of the Good Samaritan.

The Good Samaritan was present & intentional, noticed someone, and truly had a “no-one is left behind” moment.

During your day today, it is easy to be absorbed in Instagram, Emails, our next meeting, study, or even our thoughts.

But imagine if you had one “No-one is left behind moment” today?

It might be someone that seems like they have it all together.

It might be someone that is a friend, family member or even an acquaintance.

You might walk past them every day, or it may be a spontaneous encounter.

How could you be present & intentional today and ask someone:

“How are you going? Really?”

Spend a moment to listen.

In a world where we are increasingly isolated, this simple moment could change someone’s life.

They could discover they‘re not alone, and someone noticed them.

We are better together.

In the words of Rick Warren, “You can impress someone from a distance, but you can truly impact them in proximity.”

We are much better together.

Thank you for reading this plan. I want to truly honour you for committing to this plan. Thank you for the privilege of being able to walk this journey with you in your devotional time.

Questions:

(1) Who is someone you can have a “No-one is Left Behind” moment today?

(2) How can I create a safe place for people to share their honest thoughts with me?

(3) What is ONE thing from this plan I can implement into my life?

Prayer:

Dear God. I pray you would speak to me today through the Holy Spirit of who I can stop & listen to today. Give me eyes to see & ears to ear. Thank you . Amen.
