Jesus Is Life

DAY 20 OF 25

Jesus is the Good News

Here’s the bad news: We are all guilty without Jesus. There is nothing we can do on our own to save us. Even when life is going well, without Christ, we are still dead. But thank You, God, we have good news!

What is the “good news”? Could you describe it to someone in a pinch? Pastor Craig Groeschel does this exceptionally well every single week at Life.Church, but all of us, as followers of Christ, should be able to share the good news of Christ with anyone, anytime.

In fact, John 3 is one of the best tools we have to share the good news. It’s one of the most foundational messages in the Bible—we must be born again. We are all sinners, but God sent us His Son, Jesus, and Jesus is the only way to God.

John 14:6 says that Jesus is “the way.” Before Jesus died for our sins, the Old Testament people were not saved by their works, but by the same faith we have today, except their faith was in the future promise of Jesus. The promise of Jesus has been fulfilled for us, so we have something even better. Jesus gave us part of Himself to live within us—the Holy Spirit!

Jesus also left us with the Great Commission—the mission to go and tell the world about our wonderful Savior, Jesus (Matthew 28:16-20)! If you don’t understand what Jesus did or how to share this good news, then you cannot fulfill your number one purpose on this earth.

Let’s look at the story of Barabbas. He was a “notorious prisoner” and horrific criminal. He deserved death, but people demanded that Barabbas be released so that Jesus, the innocent, sinless, spotless Lamb of God, would be crucified in his place! This is the good news! The irony was that the people didn’t even know they had demanded a living example of the good news.

You are Barabbas. Sin separated you from God, but Jesus took your place. You deserved death, but He gave you abundant life. All you have to do to be saved is believe in Jesus Christ and receive His gift of eternal life. And when you receive His love in your life, the Holy Spirit will make His home in you, guide you, help you, and be your best friend.

Now, will you learn how to bravely share this good news? Ask God to give you the words, and be willing to let your life’s first purpose be the Great Commission—to reach one and teach one about the hope we have in Christ.

Consider:

How confident are you in your ability to share the good news? What are some ways you can become more confident in sharing it with others?

Prayer:

Father, I am willing. Help me to know the good news in my own life so that I can boldly share it with people who are living life apart from You! Father, I will do anything short of sin to lead people to become fully devoted followers of Christ. Strengthen my heart for You. Make me bolder for Your glory, in Jesus name!

*Practice sharing the good news by using your Jesus Is … journal.
