DAY 2 OF 5

DAVID - Part 2

We’ve all been to games and competitions where our favorite players and teams seem to be ready to annihilation. In fact, I’m pretty sure you can remember that one event where all odds were against them. You can probably still hear the roar of the top dog and the tone of confidence in their voice.

Now, let’s take it a bit more personally. Perhaps you’re going through a time in your own life when you feel in a similar situation. Maybe it’s not the SuperBowl or the NBA Finals, but there may be a situation in your life where all odds are against you. People at work don’t believe in you. You may be planting a church, starting a small group, developing your business or ministry, or getting your family back… but, things are not working. You feel unqualified; you feel incompetent. And that’s precisely the position God wants you to be in.

While not having any military experience at all, David faced a mighty and experienced warrior. A fearless enemy. Goliath was taller, older, and more experienced. He had the best weapons and armor. The entire crowd was on his side: the Philistines revered him, while Israel feared him. David, on the other hand was just a teenager. He had no armor, no training, no soldier weapons. From a spectator’s view, David would be a quick bite for Goliath. A quick defeat by the giant. However, things turned out to be very different, didn’t they? That day, the Israel army experienced the greatest comeback of all times. So, what made the difference?

David did not rely on his power. Nor on his strength, strategy, experience or wisdom. He completely relied upon God’s mighty power. And God delivered! God didn’t want the victory that day to be credited to experienced soldiers or clever battle strategies. He wanted everyone to know that everything Israel needed was their loving and delivering God!

It’s the same in your life: the only thing you really need to overcome is God! God is your deliverer and if you place your trust in Him, He will act. When you are weak, when you are the underdog, you’re in the best position to be used by Him!

About this Plan

Underdog

At some point in our lives, we've all been underdogs. We've felt there's somebody out there more qualified; somebody more knowledgeable, experienced, skillful, or capable. Did you know, however, that feeling unqualified to fulfill your calling in life—as a spouse, leader or follower of Christ—actually puts you in the best position to be used by God? In this 5-day devotional, you'll experience the stories of many underdogs in the Bible.
