Love God Greatly: Words MatterSample
Gossip. That idle talk or rumor, especially about the personal or private affairs of others. Gossip, like lying, is not always considered a “big” sin. Many of us consent and participate in gossiping. But see what today's verses say about it:
“A dishonest man spreads strife, and a whisperer separates close friends.” – Proverbs 16:28.
A whisperer separates close friends. Many people have lost friends and relationships because of gossip. Gossip has destroyed reputations, divided churches and built walls between people. The advice today is to not associate with gossipers. Don't think it's rude to stop a gossiper from telling you something about someone else. If you apply yesterday's verses, you will confront that person and help restore him by speaking truth in love.
Don't listen to the gossiper. Don´t spread rumors about others. If you have a problem with someone, tell that person and no one else. Those who guard their tongues keep themselves from calamity (Proverbs 21:23). So, we must guard our tongues and be careful to refrain from the sinful act of gossip.
Dear Father, forgive me for all the times when I have spread rumors about others. Help me to not associate with those who gossip and slander others. In Jesus’ name, amen.
