Destroy
Fire destroys. It has an amazing ability to demolish anything in its path.
As we surrender our hearts to God in search of the passion and fire for Him our souls seek, we will find along the way that there a few things that need to be destroyed.
When you say yes to a relationship with God through Jesus Christ, God invites you on a journey. It’s an unpredictable adventure full of twists and turns, ups and downs. Considering that the length of this journey is lifelong, God allows you to take along some items for the trip, a spiritual knapsack, if you will. He knows you’re new to the terrain, so at first, He lets you take along whatever you like.
You have likely chosen to bring things like love, patience, and compassion for the excursion. But inevitably, vices like selfishness, anger and jealousy have found their way into your knapsack as well.
As you and your Lord travel together, God begins to explore the items you’ve packed. When He finds virtues like love and compassion, He is pleased because your heart mirrors His.
But from time to time, after sundown, when you make camp for the night and sit near the fire to warm yourself, God stumbles across something you brought that troubles Him because He knows it will hinder you on your journey.
He turns to you and tells you that it is time to let it go. All your crutches and hidden sins. The bad habits you just can’t seem to break. Bad attitudes, lust, envy and even pride. He tells you it’s time to throw it into the fire and destroy it for good.
Now, you and I have a critical choice to make. Will we hold our knapsack tightly to our chest, insisting that our status quo is here to stay? Or will we, with heart racing and hands trembling, obey the voice of the Lord and forsake everything we have known so that we can give birth to the purpose and destiny God has had for us all along?
What is God inviting you to destroy today?
Thank God He does not command us to change and then leave us to figure it all out by ourselves! Tomorrow, we will learn how God lovingly guides us on the road to life transformation.
