Affirmation: Self Or God? By Robin MeadowsSample
SELF AFFIRMATION:
“I am the author of my own destiny.”
Do you truly believe this is even possible?
What about those who have had no choice in the way their life has gone? I know many who have suffered through the death of their own children. I know others who currently have extreme physical illnesses and pain. I’ve walked with those who have broken marriages from abandonment or the unwillingness of a partner to work through hard things.
These happenings are not their choice, their desire, nor their plan for life. Their circumstances are not a destiny they would have written or chosen for themselves. There is nothing they can do that would give them control over their difficulties.
But what these amazing friends have had control over is their attitude and outlook while going through these greivous times. Attitude and effort are the only real things in life which we can control.
Each of us is in the process of becoming. We are “works in progress” as we move toward our destiny and calling in life. If we believe we were created by a loving Father, we can also believe He will see us through, no matter how difficult our circumstances. When we turn our heart toward Him and allow Him to begin a work in us, He finishes it. The work He does is always good, because He is a good and faithful God.
Ephesians 2:1 TPT says that we are “re-created people that will fulfill the destiny he has given each of us...Even before we were born, God planned in advance our destiny and the good works we would do to fulfill it!”
Sure, you can try to be the author of your own destiny—if you are alone, writing your own story, finding your own way, and leading a very independent life. Yet even then you may be disappointed by the circumstances of life that are out of your control.
Why would we ever try to find our own way—write our own unknown destiny—when we have Someone to follow who calls Himself The Way?
He has a grand destiny planned just for you. Will you follow Him day by day and discover it with Him?
...I run with passion into his abundance so that I may reach the destiny that Jesus Christ has called me to fulfill and wants me to discover. I don’t depend on my own strength to accomplish this; however I do have one compelling focus: I forget all of the past as I fasten my heart to the future instead. Philippians 3:12–13 TPT
GOD AFFIRMATION:
“I don’t have to write my own destiny, because it is being written by The Author of Life!”

About this Plan
Self-empowerment and personal development are prevalent concepts in our culture today. Being self-aware, responsible, and knowing your strengths and weaknesses is a plus in life. But, could popular self-affirmations be just far enough from the Truth that believing them could hold you back from living the very best life God has planned for you? Let’s dig into scripture in this 6-day plan by Robin Meadows to see what is revealed.
