DAY 10 OF 12

Day 10 - Is that a Truth or a Lie?

After my first speaking opportunity, I knew that there was more speaking to come. Each time I spoke, fear and intimidation would come over me, fear of people judging me and saying the wrong thing. I continued to battle the same lies in my mind. I often had to remind myself that grace was all I needed to do this, and that Jesus had my back, and He wouldn’t shame me. I had to continue to be obedient to the calling upon my life to lead women and to help women overcome their battles with insecurities and fears. The journey of walking this calling out was often painful, but each time I spoke to the ladies, the reward of seeing the ladies set free was always worth it. I had to learn to walk in my authority and know who lives inside of me every day until I could manage my insecurities and intimidation and overcome them with the truth of the Word.

Society and media have modeled an accepted image of what we should look like, dress like and act like. We respond by comparing ourselves to one another because we never think we are good enough, or we feel like something is not right in our lives. It could be how we look, our weight, how smart or popular we are, or who we date. We begin to believe the lies of the enemy and want to be like someone else because we are not happy with who we are.

So how can you be set free from the lies of the enemy that have held you captive? The first step is recognizing the lie; second, standing in agreement with God; third, tearing down the lies or strongholds; fourth, building up the truth; and finally, surrendering the thoughts to the truth. Just remember that the devil wants to keep you captive to those lies for as long as he can so you won’t fulfill the calling and destiny that God has for your life. Instead, let God occupy your mind with truth!

Imagine for a moment you are standing in a small prison cell, representing the lies you have believed over yourself. Lies such as, “I am not pretty, handsome, smart, worthy, accepted, forgiven, or good enough.” The lies form the walls, brick by brick, lie upon lie, until you are hemmed in on every side. The enemy wants you to believe you are stuck in this room forever with no escape. The truth is, there is a way out of that room! You don’t have to be held captive in that room because God’s Word provides a door that you can unlock at any time. Jesus is the key and His truth will set you free from your prison. The lies have been living rent free in your thoughts and life, but God wants you to evict them for good and never allow the adversary access to your life again.

If you believe something about yourself, ask yourself the question, “Is this a truth or a lie?” When you answer the question, ask yourself if what you have believed is the actual truth, because you have to believe the truth about what God says about you in order to be set free. The lies of the enemy can shake you up and rattle you into insecurity, pride, and shame. You need to begin breaking those lies and speaking truth over your life so you may live in peace with who you are in Christ. God’s truth will stand the test of time, but lies will soon be exposed, as Proverbs 12:19 declares. Do not continue on in life believing in a lie, but walk in the truth about who God says you are.
