How To Thrive

DAY 5 OF 28

How To Survive THRIVE - Physically

Day 5: Healing

It’s almost impossible to do a Biblical devotional on thriving physically without addressing the topic of physical, supernatural healing.  At the same time, it’s almost impossible to address the topic in a few scriptures and a few short paragraphs.  So if this devotional feels incomplete - it is!  With that disclaimer, let me share four statements that I believe are true.

God can and does heal supernaturally.  We see it over and over in the Bible and many of us (myself included) have seen it first hand.

We should pray for each others healing.  We see in the Bible people praying for one another’s healing.  The Prophets did it, Jesus did it, the disciples did it, the early church did it.  It seems to be a good thing when someone is sick that we join together - lay hands on them and pray for God’s miraculous healing.

Not everybody who is prayed for is healed.  Why is that?  I don't know.  I know there have been volumes written on the subject.  The arguments range from everybody would/should be healed if they had enough faith, to God doesn’t heal anymore like He did in the Bible.

Ultimate and complete healing comes at death.  The truth is that any physical healing we experience is only temporary.  We will all die eventually no matter how many times we are healed.  As Christians we know death is not the end.  It’s the beginning!

The goal for me is to hold those four statements in tension.

When someone is sick we should pray for them, knowing and believing in a God who can miraculously heal on the spot.  But my faith in God isn’t based on the fact that He heals every time I pray because I know that much of the time He doesn’t.  (At least not in the way I am hoping and praying for.)  My faith is in God - period.  Who He is, not what He does.

So when someone you love is sick.  PRAY.  In traditional old school language, storm the gates of heaven.  Believe God to do what only He can do.  And then…  let God be God.
