Love God Greatly - Jonah

DAY 23 OF 28

God holds the right to be angry, not us

Yesterday, we saw a very angry Jonah. He was angry to see the people of Nineveh receive God´s mercy – something that had been extended not only to the people of Nineveh, but also to Jonah.

I imagine God, in the most loving way, asking Jonah, “Oh, Jonah, really? Do you get angry because I´m doing with the Ninevites the same that I did and still do for you? Do you really think you do well to be angry? It´s me who should be upset!”

Do you do well to be angry? This Scripture comes to my mind often when I listen to myself speaking in a loud, harsh voice. Or when I overreact to something that is not done to my expectations.

God is the only one who holds the right to be angry. He is the one who sees all my failures, my sins, my transgressions. And still, He decides to love me. But I think I have the right to be mad at others when they do things wrong or when they don´t meet my standards.

Romans 3:23 states that all of us have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. All of us. And still He forgives us every single day. Have you paid attention to God´s mercy lately? Have you seen the many ways He is gracious to you? Let’s start extending grace to others, too.

Heavenly Father, help me always do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with You. I don´t want to be judgmental or angry toward others when things don´t go as I´ve envisioned them. Help me show Your love and mercy to the people You’ve placed in my life. Amen.

About this Plan

Love God Greatly - Jonah

Regardless if we are an outsider, like the people of Nineveh, or an insider, like Jonah, to the Kingdom of God, the book of Jonah is a reminder that God goes to great lengths to demonstrate His grace and mercy to all. Be encouraged as you read this powerful story of God’s relentless grace and mercy, and may you never forget that no one is beyond redemption. May we all seek to love the loveless in our lives.
