12 Steps to Serenity

DAY 10 OF 12

STEP 10

Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.

When we begin to experience success in turning our lives around, we may believe that these accomplishments have resulted from our own human power. The apostle Paul warns against that prideful attitude.

On the other hand, neither should we become hypercritical or over-judgmental when we do make mistakes or slip back into past patterns of behavior. Paul warns us “to think soberly,” which simply means to have sound thinking about ourselves. This is why Step 10 is so important to our spiritual and emotional well-being.

Our daily and weekly inventory is exactly what we need to keep us “thinking soberly.” Have we had success in breaking old dependencies? We should praise God and continue to acknowledge our need of His help. Have we failed in our attempt to handle a problem? We can honestly admit our error and ask God’s help to correct the situation. Our personal inventory helps us remain focused on who we are and the direction God wants for our lives.
