5 Things You Can Count on From GodSample
#2 - He’s On Your Side
Despite the awful things that may have happened, God is on your side! That means His power is with you. Just another reason you can count on Him.
There’s a story in 2 Kings that illustrates that. The king of Syria was at war with God’s people, Israel. But God was quietly telling Israel’s prophet Elisha the enemy’s battle plans. As a result, Syria was repeatedly thwarted.
The king couldn’t figure out how Israel’s army was hearing about his plans in advance. Then he discovered that Elisha was eavesdropping in the spirit!
So the king purposed to hunt down Elisha. He found out where the prophet was and surrounded the place. When Elisha’s servant saw the huge army he cried, “Alas my master! What shall we do?”
Elisha didn’t panic. He didn’t even go look out the window. He knew that God was with him and would protect him.
Elisha calmly said, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them” (6:16). Then he prayed for his servant, “Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see” (6:17). And Elisha’s servant saw a mountain that was full of horses and chariots of fire, sent by God to protect them. It completely surrounded Elisha.
Elisha knew that there was more going on than met the physical eye. He knew that God had their back because he was looking into the spirit realm, and he prayed that the servant could also see God’s perspective.
God is on your side, too! He wants your spiritual eyes to see things from His point of view, not just in the natural. Your physical eyes and ears don’t always see and hear what God is doing—those things have to be seen (discerned) by your spirit, by faith (1 Cor 2:9-10).
But just as God revealed it to Elisha’s servant, He also wants to reveal it to you. He wants you to know that He’s with you! The way you come to believe this is by looking more into spiritual things than natural things. This kind of belief comes by reading and meditating on what He has said in the Bible.
