HOLD ONTO OR GIVE AWAY

In the Kingdom of God, sharing is expected. A popular proverb says, "What I have kept, I lost. What I spent, I had. What I donated, I have." Giving is the essence of the heavenly Father's heart, and He wants us to live that way. You don't have to try hard to live a self-centered life. After the Fall, holding onto things became natural and sharing became unnatural. We must be intentional to live unselfishly. Autopilot will always lead you to think only of yourself and to live for your own comfort and goals. But there is a satisfaction and joy that only givers experience. Giving "feeds" the soul and fills it with meaning.

How about starting a life of giving today? You could start by gathering things that you own but don't use much and giving them to someone else. After that, you can continue to grow to new levels of surrender as the Holy Spirit guides you. Giving involves many aspects such as your time, gifts, and talents, and obviously financial resources. In fact, giving financial resources creates in us a servant's heart as few things do. I have never seen a generous, God-motived person unhappy. The blessings of Heaven are a constant flow through that person so that they continue to receive and give away. The Christian life is receiving, rejoicing, and sharing, and that includes our financial resources. It prevents Mammon from stealing your heart. So go ahead and share!
