Prayer Is a Blessing

DEŇ 2 Z 3

Jesus Prays Fervently to the Father

By Rev. Mark Bartsch, Chaplain

During the days of Jesus' life on earth, He offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the One who could save Him from death, and He was heard because of His reverent submission. …and, once made perfect, He became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey Him. (Hebrews 5: 7, 9)

Good communication is vital. If you wanted or needed to share important information with someone but you did not speak the same language, one of two things will happen:

1. You will find a person who can act as an interpreter for the two of you.

2. You could learn enough of the new language to communicate with the other party.

It is so comforting to know that in whatever language we pray, God will hear us, and He will answer us.

Jesus prays to His Father in heaven. Is that unusual? Not at all. During Jesus’s life on Earth, He communicated regularly and consistently with the Father. He knew what He was to do on Earth. He knew there would be trials and troubles to face. He knew that He had to endure the incomprehensible agony of taking all of humanity’s sin upon Himself.

Jesus knew that He came to keep the law and to die on the cross in our place. He needed strength and encouragement from His Father to do the work that He was called to do. He did ask that the cup of suffering be removed, yet He knew the Father’s will, and He knew that He would carry out that will. He came to fulfill all righteousness for us.

“Once made perfect, He became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him.” (Heb 5:9)

We respond by placing all of our sins at the foot of Jesus’s cross. We rejoice that we have forgiveness and peace in Him. He is our perfect substitute. We thank God that He sent His Son to be our Savior, and we give thanks that Jesus has accomplished the work God sent Him to do.

Prayer: Dear Lord God, thank You for sending Jesus to be our loving Savior. Your communication with Him was perfect. He fulfilled all righteousness. We are thankful we can come to You in prayer and that You promise to hear us. In Jesus’s name we pray. Amen.

Prayer Is a Blessing

In most relationships, good communication is vital. This remains true for our relationship with God. When we come to God in prayer, He will hear us and answer us. Prayer is a blessing God has given to all of those who are His children by faith. This three-day devotion series, shared by The Lutheran Home Association’s chaplains, focuses on prayer.
