God At WorkUkážka
God Himself Works
Do you drag yourself to work every day? Well, work can be difficult sometimes. As a result of the Fall, work became tough and even painful (cf. Gen. 3:17-19). Moreover, we don’t always receive the reward of our labor. But God doesn’t want us to see our work as drudgery. Rather, He wants us to give our best as we work. But you may say, “I don’t like my job at all.” Even if you don’t like your job, the Lord wants you to work at it with all your heart, as unto the Lord.
Many adults spend nearly 50% of their waking hours working. Since we spend so much of time working, God is concerned about our work. Since work is inherently good, we must work as unto the Lord. In this devotional, we will see as to what the Bible teaches about work.
We work because God also works. God doesn’t do sloppy work. In the creation account, we read that he made everything “very good.” The Bible says, “And God saw everything that He had made, and behold, it was very good” (Gen. 1:31). Further, Genesis 2:2-3 records, “And on the seventh day God finished His work that He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work that He had done. So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all His work that He had done in creation.”
Even Jesus worked while He was on this earth. While he lived on this earth, the Lord worked tirelessly to complete the Father’s work. Jesus says, “We must work the works of Him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world” (Jn 9:4-5). Jesus accomplished the work that the Father gave Him: “I glorified You on earth, having accomplished the work that You gave me to do” (Jn 17:4). When we work, we are imitating God. So, let’s work.
O tomto pláne
In this devotional, Dr. David Mende writes that since we spend so many hours at the workplace every day, God is concerned about our work and He’s at work even as we work. He doesn’t want us to see our work as drudgery. Rather, He wants us to give our best as we work.
