Reflections On The Gospel Of John Ukážka
DO WHATEVER HE SAYS In today’s Scripture text, Jesus’ mother knew the importance of following the commands of her son Jesus because of the authority He possessed. It was here at the wedding in Cana that Jesus prepared to perform His very first recorded miracle after wine ran out.
Here Jesus gave the command to fill several water pots, not with grapes or anything that would produce wine, but with simple, plain water. I’m sure those in attendance began to question His command wondering how pots filled with water would provide that which was needed for the wedding guests. Again, knowing the power and authority Jesus had (and still has today), his mother simply said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you” (JHN.2.5).
Despite what seemed impractical and irrational, the servants obeyed. And it was because of the servants’ obedience to the command of Jesus, the water in the pots miraculously turned into wine providing more than enough to satisfy all of the wedding guests. Not only did the water turn into wine, but the wine that produced from the water pots towards the end of the wedding feast was actually better than the wine served at the beginning.
When we follow the commands of Jesus, not only are miracles produced, but it causes our ending to be better than the beginning. What command has God given you to follow through with today? Don’t just sit and think about it, or even try to rationalize it. God is not going to give you an impossible command to follow because He will also equip you with what you need to accomplish the assignment.
Our victory and blessing comes when we follow through and obey all of His command(s) as given to us through His Word. Whatever Jesus instructs us to do according to His Word; that is what He expects us to do.
So don’t just sit around and wait, or even try to mull it over and/or contemplate; your breakthrough comes when you just “DO WHATEVER HE SAYS!”
