Word of the Day: Band-Aid
Definition: Able to help or improve something only for a short period of time (Merriam-Webster, 2016).
For years as a child, I thought Band-Aids made the wound heal faster. But I always wondered why they couldn’t take away the pain. They covered ugly injuries, known as “boo-boos”, but did not address the pain. Band-Aids are convenient for small injuries but serve a very temporary purpose. Once the wound heals, there is not a need for them. As a matter of fact, if the wound is too big, a Band-Aid may not completely fulfill its purpose. A Band-Aid can only do so much. Often, we tend to put a Band-Aid on situations that just don’t seem to have an ounce of reconciliation or resolve. Why do we continue to apply these “Band-Aids” on wounds that are too big for them, in hopes of healing? Why apply a Band-Aid at all? Holding on to things and trying to bind them together with a Band-Aid has not been working and it only causes more pain. This is a task that requires the fixer: God.
Action: After reflecting on this word of the day, think of a situation where you are fully aware that you have placed a Band-Aid on it. Repent and turn it over to God.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I just want to thank You so much for looking out for me. Please forgive me for not always acknowledging the fact that You are in control and everything is in Your hands. Help me to see through the lens of hope while resting in peace and contentment; knowing that You will work all situations out for my good because I am your child, I love You and I receive the call that You have placed on my life. Thank You for Your word and Holy Spirit to guide me on this journey. All these things I ask in the matchless name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Affirmation: Despite the reality of my circumstances, I am turning them over to God who can fix anything!
