“But what does it matter?” That statement alone has put me back in my place a number of times when I’ve found myself judging a person’s motives in whether they are pure or selfish when preaching Christ. The important issue isn’t their motives but what they are preaching. If they had been preaching a false gospel, Paul would have taken issue with them, but that wasn’t the case. At the end of the day, Paul rejoiced. He rejoiced in the fact that the gospel was being preached; whether it was by him or someone else didn’t matter. All that mattered was that Christ was preached. This is a hard but important lesson for all of us to learn. We must be united as we share Christ with the world and cheer each other on, not worrying about who is getting credit. Our names don’t matter. In the end, knees will only bow down to one name: Jesus. May we all strive to glorify His name.

Love God Greatly - Philippians: Choosing Joy

How is it possible to have deep joy in the midst of overwhelming sorrow and suffering? Out of 104 verses in this power-packed book, Jesus is mentioned directly or indirectly 51 times. In the end, Paul teaches us that Jesus is the Author and only Source of true joy. The things of this world can never satisfy our deepest longings. Without Jesus there is no salvation, and therefore no lasting joy. Without Jesus there is no way to overcome our circumstances, to love people who are hard to love, to reconcile, to forgive, and to live godly lives.
