When with God less means more!
Isn't it always the case that something seems to be missing, something we feel we need? And it doesn't always have to be this one big thing; it can be very simple things.
For example, recently I was able to retreat to southern France again to finish writing my next book in german. And it rained the entire five days I was there. I missed the sun, which I always enjoyed so much there.
Do you know what Daniel missed when he was brought to the king's court in Babylon? A balanced diet. Because the food there followed different purity laws, he gave up—get this—for three years on everything except vegetables and water! That had nothing to do with a balanced diet. His body was missing 'essential' nutrients left and right.
Daniel was convinced that God would take care of him and his body. When the court officials were skeptical, he suggested they try it for ten days.
And look at what happened then. The Bible says: "At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food. So the guard took away their choice food and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables instead." (Daniel 1:15-16 NIV)
And it doesn't stop there! It says: "To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning. And Daniel could understand visions and dreams of all kinds." (Daniel 1:17 NIV)
Isn't it wonderful how God often gives us more through less? In southern France, I had less sun, but more ideas. Daniel had less food, but God gave him more wisdom and understanding. What do you have less of?
While you're thinking: "But then I'll miss this," God will give you "even more!”
Keep your eyes open for what God wants to give you in your ‘less’ today, and pray this: "Father, let me recognize the ‘more’ in my current place."
You are a miracle!
