Learn to Discern

7 න් 1 වන දිනය

My husband and I send out daily devotional emails through a subscription called Chamatkar Every Day. We often receive messages in reply, asking us for a word of direction from God.

We feel honoured that our readers trust our judgement, but Cameron and I are convinced that God wants to give every believer the ability to make good, wise and Godly decisions—even for life’s biggest choices.

This essential skill is called discernment and is an integral part of becoming a mature believer (Hebrews 5:14). This week, we’re diving into what it means to "learn to discern." 😃

There are two types of discernment found in the Bible:

  1. The gift of discernment between good and evil spirits, given to some (1 Corinthians 12:7-11)
  2. The ability to discern God’s will through the renewal of your mind, available to all:
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will. – Romans 12:2

When we walk with Christ, the Holy Spirit will renew our minds (Ephesians 4:22-23).

This renewed mind and the ability to discern God’s will is available for all believers! This is the type of discernment we're learning this week.

The idea that only certain people, such as prophets or pastors, can tell you God’s will for your life is wrong.

Sure, it may feel safer to let someone else decide for you. But seeking God’s will for yourself, allowing Him to lead you and trusting that the Holy Spirit will guide you requires a level of faith that really pleases God!

Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him. – Hebrews 11:6

Let’s thank God together:

“Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me the ability to discern Your will. I choose to follow you, not the world, and I ask your Holy Spirit to renew my mind daily. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”

Hey! You are a Chamatkar
