Christian Fit Check

DAY 1 OF 7

Protect your soul

Soldiers don’t walk into a fight without the right fit. I’m not sure if soldiers use that slang (fit = outfit), but I can tell you that every soldier cares about their fit. It’s why they walk into war zones with assault rifles, tactical vests, and combat helmets. If you want to stand at the end of your next fight, you care about your fit.

Christians care about their fit, too. We live in a spiritual war zone with demonic enemies who have clever strategies to kill our faith. That’s why Paul writes: “Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (Ephesians 6:14-17).

We will break this armor down in our upcoming devotions, but notice something about the six items Paul mentions here. Five of them are defensive in nature. Perhaps Paul is suggesting that most spiritual warfare isn’t what we do for God (swinging the sword) but instead what we receive from God (the gospel that protects our souls).

There is active combat for you to engage in, but start today’s fight by putting on the love, mercy, and grace that God has given you through Jesus. That’s how you protect your soul in this spiritual war!
