Living as a Child at Home

"See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!"

(1 John 3:1 NIV)

The word lavish, when combined with the truth that this is how the Father loves us, brings me to tears.

Some synonyms of the word ‘lavish’ are ‘wild, ‘unrestrained’, ‘unreasonable’.

This is how God loves you and me!

Coming home to God isn’t just a one-time event - it’s a new way of living. As human kind, we are prone to wandering off – perhaps this is why the Lord likens us to sheep so often in scripture!

Our sinful and selfish nature can create a difficult barrier between us and God but if we return to Him daily, in repentance, prayer and worship, we cannot wander too far off.

As children of God, we are called to live in a relationship with our Father, enjoying His presence and walking in His ways. He is our Good and Great Shepherd, the One who watches over our lives and souls.

There is a beautiful quote from John Piper that says, ‘God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him.’ I believe this, friends! When we are content and living a godly life, God is glorified!

How much more reason to enjoy our place at home with Him do we need?

If you watch a child in their own home surroundings, they may move from room to room freely, asking for a snack, playing with their toys, following their parents around for comfort...they are secure. They are loved.

This is a picture of us too.

We have the ultimate freedom in Christ when we remain close to Him, under the covering of His watchful eye, bound to Him in loving care.

Today, reflect on what it means for you to live as a child of God, staying close to His heart and growing in your relationship with Him.

Father,

Thank You for calling me Your child. Help me live every day in the knowledge of Your love and grace. I want to remain close to You, walking in Your light and fulfilling Your purpose for my life. In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

Action: Create a daily routine that helps you stay close to God, whether through prayer, reading Scripture, or worship. Commit to one new habit that keeps you anchored in your relationship with Him.
