The Revelation of God’s Love

“In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent His only Son into the world, so that we might live through Him.” (1 John 4:9)

John says, “God is love”, and he provides us with proof of that statement. God's love is not just an abstract quality or feeling, but it becomes visible in His actions.

God created us human beings. Therefore, it seems logical that He is sympathetic to humanity. After all, He wanted us to exist and made us as He saw fit. However, the big problem is that the first humans turned away from their Creator, and therefore all humans born since have rebellious, sinful hearts as well. We did not reciprocate God's love but rejected it.

Yet God has never stopped loving people. True, He does punish us for our rebellion. Every human being must die sooner or later as a result of sin. But driven by His unstoppable love, God sent His only Son into the world, as John tells us. God the Son came to earth to pay for our sin and deliver us from the threat of death. He wants to give us life because He loves us.

It’s such a simple phrase: God sent His only Son into the world. But what a miracle that is! God the Son became a man, to save people. That surely is a great demonstration of His love for us!
