Handling Rejection with Grace
“And wherever they do not receive you, when you leave that town shake off the dust from your feet” — Luke 9:5 ESV
Rejection is a reality of sharing the Gospel. Even Jesus faced rejection from those He came to save (John 1:11). When someone rejects the message, it’s not you they’re rejecting—it’s Christ. This truth can free you from taking rejection personally.
Luke 10:16 says, "Whoever listens to you listens to me; whoever rejects you rejects me." This perspective reminds us that we’re messengers, not the source of salvation. Our responsibility is to share faithfully, not to ensure acceptance.
It’s important to approach rejection with grace. Instead of becoming discouraged or defensive, pray for the person and trust God to continue working in their heart. Sometimes, rejection is a “no” for now, but it might not be forever. Your words may plant seeds that someone else will water later.
Jesus also told His disciples to “shake the dust off your feet” when a town rejected them (Luke 9:5). This wasn’t about giving up but about moving forward without bitterness or regret. Keep sharing the Gospel with others, knowing that every effort is valuable, even if it’s unseen.
Celebrate the courage it takes to step out in faith, regardless of the outcome. Remember, obedience is success in God’s eyes.
How can you remain faithful and hopeful when facing rejection?
Pray
Lord, help me to handle rejection with grace and humility. When others turn away, remind me that it is You they are rejecting, not me. Keep my heart soft and my faith strong as I continue to share Your message. Amen.
