The King of Kings

As we begin to unpack different spiritual beings in scripture, examining their impact and importance, we have to start at their rightful place—God’s place.

1 Timothy 6:15 describes God as the only ruler, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. When we think of leaders, no one past or present, real or fictional, compares to God. Not Master Yoda from Star Wars or Master Oogway from Kung Fu Panda. Military leaders like Winston Churchill or George Washington don't measure up either. The God we follow is the Ruler to rule all earthly leaders.

As we read through the Bible, it's clear that God has an enemy, Satan. But the good news is, we've read the end of the book, and we know Who wins! Revelation is the last book of the Bible. It has a lot of confusing images within it. Beasts and bowls; pregnant women and dragons. Horses and battles. BUT one thing is very clear - God wins. The King of Kings always reigns above every other leader or ruler. God is often shown as a lamb because lambs are an image of kindness and gentleness, qualities that God possesses. But there is also strength within His gentleness.

As you read portions of Revelation today, have courage. Many times, we read passages like these and get scared. That’s not the goal. Our goal today is to sit in wonder and awe of the King we follow—to wonder at His power and be in awe of His strength.

Knowing that the ending is already written (Jesus wins), how does that change the way you live your day to day life?
