Learning About Love With St. Valentine

DAY 1 OF 4

God's Love for Us

Roses are red, violets are blue

Sugar is sweet, and so are you.

This is the poem many share

To show how much they love and care.

Flowers and candy sent our way

ev’ry year on Valentine’s Day.

But why the cards that say, “Be mine”?

That’s all from dear Saint Valentine!

Did you know that St. Valentine was a real person, and that he is the reason we celebrate Valentine’s Day? What is your favorite thing to do on Valentine’s Day? How does it make you feel when you get a valentine from your family or friends?

St. Valentine was known for how much he loved people. It feels great to be loved by our family and friends, but did you know that God loves us even more? Psalm 108:4 says that God’s love is so great it reaches to the skies, which means it is bigger and more amazing than we can even imagine. God’s gigantic love for us is also unstoppable. This means that when we are in Christ, no matter what happens in our lives, that love will always be there for us—even when we make mistakes. God loves us completely, exactly as we are.

Prayer: Thank you, God, for your unstoppable love. Thank you that your love is so big it reaches to the skies!

Activity: Make a valentine for God! Write a poem on the valentine that begins, “Roses are red, violets are blue…”
