THE PROMISE OF A PIONEER: BREAKTHROUGH
In the mid-90s, an athlete named Roger Bannister conquered what appeared to be the unconquerable mountain of athletics. Since the late 1800s, one of the greatest goals in athletics has been to run the mile in under four minutes. Despite many attempts, this had never been done before in the history of the world.
But on May 6th, 1954, on a small track at Oxford University in England, the announcer read out the winning time of three minutes and fifty-nine seconds. The record had been broken. The impossible had become possible. And what was a barrier had been broken through.
Interestingly, 46 days after Bannister had broken the record, an Australian runner named John Landy broke the barrier again with a time of three minutes and fifty-eight seconds. A year later, three more runners had broken the four-mile Barrier. And over the next fifty years, over one thousand runners conquered this mountain.
BREAKTHROUGH BREEDS BREAKTHROUGH.
Something that seemed impossible for so many became attainable because someone pioneered a breakthrough. And this is exactly what pioneers do; they take what is out of reach and make it achievable. When we begin to walk in breakthrough, the people around us begin to walk in the same thing. People around us become inspired. Their faith begins to rise.
This is why testimony is so important. The Bible says that the people of God overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony. The things that bring breakthroughs into people’s lives are, firstly, what Jesus did on the cross. We overcome because, at the cross, Jesus overcame death. And by His blood, we are more than conquerors. But secondly it is the testimony of our lives. When we start to share the stories of God’s goodness and God’s faithfulness in our own lives, it awakens breakthrough inside of others.
Every week, we hear testimonies of people being physically healed, marriages being restored, people being set free from addiction, and young people radically getting saved. These are real people encountering a real God and having real breakthroughs.
These testimonies remind us that our God is the God of the breakthrough. That nothing is too hard for Him. With God, nothing is impossible. It's at His name, that every knee must bow. That means sickness, depression, anxiety, and fear must bow in the presence of an Almighty God.
As a pioneer, God has commissioned us to carry a spirit of breakthrough into our world. You were not created to live an average and mundane life; God designed you with purpose and destiny. You have been called for more. You have been called for greater. You have been called to PIONEER.
QUESTIONS:
1. What have been some of the greatest limitations in your life?
2. What areas of your life are you believing for God to bring breakthrough?
