Journey Through the Book of JohnSample
Pour It Out
Mary’s anointing of Jesus with expensive perfume signifies extravagant love and devotion. This was no ordinary offering; the oil used was a year’s worth of wages. For Mary, this was a significant sacrificial offering. This act challenges us to consider how we express our love for Christ and how we value our offerings to Him. It invites us to pour out our lives in service and worship. When we pour out our lives for Him, we align ourselves with His purposes.
This text challenges us to evaluate our devotion and how we express our love for Christ. What does it cost you to serve Jesus today? Think about what it means to pour out your life in worship and service. Our acts of love and gratitude create a beautiful aroma that honors Him. Just like Mary, we should give Him our very best. The best of our time, talents, resources, and even our very life.
This chapter challenges us: if you love your life, you’re set up to lose it, but if you hate your life, you will keep it for eternity. We want to encourage you that this kind of sacrificial gift is worth more than expensive oil, and it will produce dividends in eternal gains. Pour it all out for the One who gave His all for you. Your gratitude can create an atmosphere for miracles—so let your worship rise up!
