The Confidence of Hope and the Pain of SeparationSample
Jesus Wept
Grief is an emotion that touches the deepest parts of our souls, and this has been profoundly true for me since I lost my precious 21-year-old daughter, Jenita, on July 14th, 2024. The pain of losing someone so dear, so young, is indescribable. Every day is a reminder of the ache that comes with the absence of her presence, her laughter, her love. And yet, as I walk this painful road, I find myself held by a hope that does not disappoint—a hope rooted in Christ.
This 7-day devotional comes from the place of my own grief. It is not theoretical or detached; it is personal and raw. I write this to encourage you, as I encourage myself, that in the midst of our deepest sorrow, there is still hope. Just as Jesus wept at the tomb of His friend Lazarus, knowing the resurrection was coming, we too can grieve while holding on to the promise of eternal life in Christ.
May this devotional walk with you through your grief, reminding you of the truth that, in Christ, death is not the end. We have the confidence of hope, even in the pain of separation. This is the hope I cling to, and it is the hope I want to share with you.
Jesus knew He would raise Lazarus from the dead, yet He wept. This shows us that grief is not a lack of faith; it’s an expression of the deep love we have for those we’ve lost. Just as Jesus shared in the sorrow of Mary and Martha, He shares in our sorrow too. It’s okay to grieve, and it’s okay to cry. God does not ask us to suppress our pain. Instead, He invites us to come to Him with it. In our tears, we see the heart of Christ—He weeps with us, and He walks with us through our grief.
Grieving doesn’t diminish our faith; rather, it shows the depth of our love. Like Jesus, we can face loss knowing what comes next, but still feel the sting of separation. Let Him carry you in your grief, knowing He fully understands your pain.
Reflection:
What pain are you carrying today? Know that Jesus understands and weeps with you.
