The Place of Prayer in a Christian School

DAY 2 OF 4

WHAT TO PRAY

PRAY LEARNERS INTO THE SCHOOL

The essence of starting and running a Christian school is that we have learners who will be taught and become disciples of Jesus. Prayer is needed to draw learners into the school. We may have a great location in terms of proximity to families and accessibility, good facilities and staff, but the ultimate help and power that brings children is God. Our help comes from the Lord who made the heaven and the earth (Psalm 121:2).

I recollect that Dansol High School opened her gates to students with four students on 9th October 1995. We had chairs and tables for fifty-two students and with all the publicity that we did, only four children resumed with us. The 24th of January 1996 was our Founder’s Day and that day, we had our eleventh student. One of the things we did frequently was to go around classrooms and decree that empty classrooms and chairs shall be habituated by students. We held on to God’s Word in Isaiah 54:3:

For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited.

We also prayed a lot with Isaiah 43:6:

I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth.

We prayed, calling the North and South to give up our students and the East and West not to hold back our children. This we did by faith, and we saw students coming in until the building became too small for us. The Lord continued to increase us in population and we built a permanent structure now accommodating 815 students.

Practice: Pray Isaiah 54:3 and Isaiah 43:6 over your school

About this Plan

The Place of Prayer in a Christian School

In this 4-day devotional, Adun Akinyemiju, Director of the Association of Christian Schools International (Africa), shares the importance of prayer in Christian education. Rooted in Mark 10:13-16, the plan emphasizes Christian schools as vital to God’s kingdom agenda. Through prayer, we align with God’s will, opposing darkness and nurturing students who know and love the Lord. Join us as we seek God's guidance and strength to fulfill His mission through Christian education.
