Names of Christ: An Advent DevotionSample
The Word
One of the names of Christ is Word.
You find it in John 1:1-4:
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
Let’s celebrate that name, Word. Celebrate that the very message of God from the beginning was salvation, was Jesus (Yeshua). Celebrate that He wanted to redeem His creation even before He created. Everything that was created came because God spoke. And when He spoke, that Word was Jesus—that He was with Him from the beginning of time. Before He ever even laid out the foundation of the world, He made a plan. And that plan was the redemption of you and me.
Here it is from Isaiah 55:11:
So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.
Realize that Jesus was sent from the Father:
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son (John 3:16).
The Word performed everything that God required; the plan of salvation was finished. When Jesus announced on the cross, “It is finished,” the bargain was made, the Word had accomplished, and then the Word could return to the Father. What a wonderful Word. What a wonderful Savior.
