God's Fathers - Questions for FathersSample
Does your child feel safe with you?
The LORD your God, who goes before you, will fight for you. The Lord, your God, carried you, as a man carries his son, all the way by which you travelled until you reached this place.” (Deuteronomy 1:30–31).
As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord! (Joshua 24:15).
In the reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord there is strong confidence, and His children shall always have a place of refuge (Proverbs 14:26 - Amplified).
Do you say sorry when you make a mistake? Do you expect your son to apologise if he does something wrong? Do you think God expects you to apologise? Why do you expect that from your children but not from yourself?
Are you patient with your children?
Do you realise that if your child is seven years old, he cannot play rugby, football or cricket for the Under-19s? He may never be able to play at that level.
Can you allow your children to be themselves? If they like art, playing the violin, chess, or building model aeroplanes, are you okay with that, or is it only acceptable if they become doctors, engineers, rugby players, cricketers, or some other ‘respectable’ profession?
What is your son's favourite ice cream, colour, sports star, song, subject or best friend’s name?
What are their two biggest dreams? Your son may want to become a writer, a video game creator, a stand-up comedian, or a sports car driver. Would that be okay with you? How about your daughter’s dreams and aspirations?
How much time do you spend talking to them each day?
Are you interruptable? Does your child feel free to come and talk to you at any time?
Do you plan nice things and surprises for them? Can they occasionally expect a gift from you?
What do you think might become of them if they follow your example?
Do you tell them Bible stories?
Have you guided your children to the place where they can take responsibility as adults, or are they adults with the behaviour and irresponsibility of children? Are they able to take their position as men or women?
What do you think your children believe about the way you feel when you look at them? Do they believe that you are proud of them?
Are you complimenting them?
Do your children know that you are proud of them no matter how well they perform? Do they know that your love and respect for them has nothing to do with their achievements?
Have you ever cried with your children and shared their sadness about something?
Do you teach your children how to manage money correctly - or should they rather not follow your example? (Matthew 6:24)?
