Creating a Yearly WordSample
Growing in Your Word
Now that you’ve chosen a word to focus on, you’ll want to return to it throughout the year. Keep it somewhere where you’ll see it, and memorize your verse. Here are some other ways to grow in your chosen area:
- During your quiet times, find and study more verses about your topic/word.
- Look up articles or other helpful information about the topic/word to learn more and find ways to grow and change.
- Search for worship songs about your topic/word.
- Talk to a close, trusted friend or family member about staying accountable in the chosen area. If you see a counselor/therapist, tell him/her about your word.
- Journal about the topic, the challenges, and the triumphs. Thank God for the ways He's working.
- Talk to others about your word. I love it when I'm talking with a friend, and somehow the conversation drifts to what I'm working on.
- When you deal with a struggle in your life, apply the word and verse.
We’re human and mess up, so it's important not to expect you'll execute your word perfectly. However, the more we discipline ourselves in the area, pray, and read the Bible, the better choices we make. Rewiring the brain requires reflection/thought, focus, discipline, work, and getting up when we fall. God is there and will help.
At the end of the year, you’ll look back and see how He worked in your life with a single word, and it's an incredible journey.
About this Plan
If you're seeking to grow in an area of your life, it can help to choose a "word of the year," along with a Bible verse to go with it. In this 3-day plan, you'll learn how to select a word and then grow in it throughout the year.
