Waking Up With the WordSample
Humans by nature are selfish. I know you probably don't like to think of yourself as selfish, and neither do I. But just look around and it won't be long before you see selfishness all around. Not with just you but as a culture. Especially with social media being so utilized, it seems there are a lot of people who want it to be all about them. Can you relate?
Let's look at babies. They are by far the most selfish! I don't even like saying that because I have a deep love for babies/children. But let's just think about it for a moment...you know it's true. They want what they want, and they want it NOW! Sound familiar?
They will fuss.
They will cry.
They will scream.
Until they get what they want!
But they don't know any better.
And neither do we as adults. We are naturally self-centered human beings. It isn't until we are EXPOSED to the teachings of Jesus Christ, that we can re-train our minds to not default to selfishness.
(Check out Romans 12:2)
When the Holy Spirit comes inside you, it changes EVERYTHING. For the better! With the Holy Spirit's help, we can live in humility. But we need His help to do this. Why? Because the world will tell you that you must be all about yourself. The world will say things like:
You need to watch out for yourself.
You need to think of yourself first and put yourself first above all else.
The world will always point you to yourself.
A life apart from God will always be self-centered because you have to be your own god in your life.
God's ways are not our ways.
His ways are better.
His ways are for our better.
His thoughts are higher than our thoughts.
It's up to us to place our TRUST in His leading for our lives.
When Jesus came to live among His creation on earth He didn't leverage His authority for personal advantage, power, pleasure, control, or comfort.
No!
He took on the role of a servant. He spent time with others. His focus was on helping others.
He went as far as giving up His own life for others. For you and for me.
Wow!
You can't get any more SELFLESS than that.
When you find yourself becoming self-obsessed, self-indulgent, or even self-righteous... I encourage you to ASK God for help!
Here are 3 questions you can ASK God to help you in your walk of humility:
1. ASK God to help you see people the way He does.
2. ASK God to use any knowledge you've gained to love Him and serve others.
3. ASK God to put opportunities in your path to lead others toward Him.
With God's help, we can change our tendency from living selfishly into living SELFESSLY, just like Jesus did!
The Word of God (The Bible), the Holy Spirit, and Fellowship with other believers are what help refine our hearts to look more like Jesus!
DECLARATION:
Today I replace pride with humility, and selfishness with selflessness. I put others first in a healthy way that honors God.
QUESTION:
Ask God to reveal to you any areas in your life where pride may be present. Ask Him to show you where you are being selfish instead of selfless.
When He shows you where there needs to be correction REPENT and ASK God to help you be more like His precious Son, Jesus.
For this, you must be HOLY SPIRIT LED, not flesh-led!
