THROUGH IT ALL
I remember when I first started writing this song, I was at my friend’s home putting together rosters for our youth ministry.
In the middle of doing this, the pre-chorus for this song suddenly came to me. I decided to take a 5-minute break to record the idea in my voice memos.
That 5-minute break led to a 2-hour writing session where I couldn’t get the idea of Ezekiel 37 out of my head.
The idea that God can breathe life into death was something I had heard a thousand times before, but if I am being honest, it had just gone in through one ear and out the other. Now the truth of this promise from God has changed my whole understanding of what it means to trust God in a trial.
It’s the Lord that can breathe life into what looks dead in our lives.
So now that we know this, are we going to trust that God can breathe life into our circumstances?
In our strength, the bones remain dry, still, and void of life. But when we speak the word of God and trust Him amid our valley, we will see new life, life fulfilled with the freedom and joy found in the finished work of the cross.
This song was written as a declaration for those times when we find ourselves amid a dry valley, surrounded by loss, death, and grief. It reassures us that we can trust in God and His plans, knowing we can place everything in His hands, for His ways are higher than ours.
Throughout scripture, there are countless mentions of how God will never leave us or forsake us in the middle of trials.
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.” Isaiah 43:2 NIV
Even when it’s hard for us to give God control of our situation, let me encourage you that God will be able to move so much more in your situation than you could do in your own strength.
Whenever I am struggling to let God into my situation I always remember Jehoshaphat in 2 Chronicles, “Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.” 2 Chronicles 20:12 NIV.
I’m so grateful that I don’t need to have the answers, but instead, I can turn to the Lord in the middle of my trial. How encouraging is it that it’s not up to us to fight our battles?
Throughout the week if you’re struggling to trust God in your situation, why don’t you pray this simple prayer?
Prayer: Lord, I love you. Thank you for your grace and your mercy. At this moment I take my eyes off my situation and I turn my attention to you. Fill me with your spirit today, help me to trust you through everything that today has for me. Amen.
About this Plan
Youth Alive Music has just released an EP titled "Do Not Disturb". These songs were inspired by the invitation Jesus offers in Matthew 6:6 "But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private".
