Insufficient answers

We often demand answers from God when things are incomprehensible and confusing. When we fail to get those answers, we may resort to rebellion and attempts to carve out our own paths. Many instinctively know that following Christ means there are things they will have to give up. They know that they must take up their cross and follow him. Jesus told his disciples, "If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross and follow Me" (Matthew 16:24). Many are unwilling to do that, so they begin to fight against God. They try to force His hand in giving them what they want but can't see the consequences they would have faced had they gotten what they had asked for. Instead, they take a "sword" and try to forge their own paths, only to destroy themselves in the end. Those who are willing to put down their swords and give up the fight have the chance to rather die to themselves.

In this world, people die, both physically and spiritually. They often die for their own interests, dreams and desires. Only a small group of people are prepared to die for God. Whoever wants to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will get it back. What will it help a man if he gains the whole world but loses his life, or what will a man give in exchange for his life? (Matthew 16:25-26)

Most Christians die without ever having the answers to all of their questions. However, they can die in peace because they know and trust God, who has all the answers.

Isaiah 40:13 should be a cornerstone in our lives: Who can fathom the Spirit of the Lord, who can be His counsellor? That means we have to understand that we are limited in our capacity as humans and that God is infinite.
