God’s Love for IsraelSample
Day 6 – God is the Source
“You are the children of the LORD your God” (Deuteronomy 14:1). This is a call to live in holiness as God’s own possession. The Bible constantly emphasizes that God has chosen to call Israel. He did this because He is Love (1 John 4:8), not because of what Israel deserves. He longs to share His love. Besides this, God loves Israel because He is faithful to His promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. His love flows from His faithfulness.
The apostle Paul writes in the New Testament, “As far as the gospel is concerned, they are enemies for your sake; but as far as election is concerned, they are loved on account of the patriarchs” (Romans 11:28). The emphasis lies on the second half of the sentence. Regardless of their actual response, God continues to love Israel. Why? Because He is God, and He has chosen to do so. He does not change in this, “for He cannot disown Himself” (2 Timothy 2:13). We cannot earn God’s love, but God Himself is the Source of love (1 John 4:8), and He gives it to us in mercy.
Thank God today for His love and mercy!
