Generosity of Heart
Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.
LUKE 6:38 ESV
As a single woman, chances are you don’t have a KitchenAid mixer from a wedding shower or a nice set of sheets from a bridal brunch. You’ve probably never received cutlery as a gift or a box of monogrammed towels at your doorstep. Especially as a single woman who may have to bear the burden of expenses that would otherwise be shared, being a good steward of your money is important. Consequently, most of us worry about money and feel as though we don’t have enough, always evaluating what we can purchase and if we can go to this event or that dinner. So it seems counterintuitive that by giving away some of our hard-earned money, we will actually become richer. Perhaps our riches aren’t measured in dollars and cents but in something greater. Perhaps we can use our money to change others’ lives and to spread the gospel.
Budgets, savings goals, and emergency funds are all important. The generosity of heart doesn’t overlook these legitimate plans. Instead, generosity of heart looks to give in ways big and small to help those around you. The Bible shows us over and over examples of those who had only a little to give to God, but because they gave it with a humble attitude and a loving spirit, they were rewarded (see Mark 12:41–44, Luke 19:11–27). You are single and you may have limited resources, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be generous. Being generous with the little you have will shake up your pride, calm your anxiety over your finances, and provide you with the peace of knowing that God has always been in control. The amazing thing is that once you become more charitable with your money, you will experience freedom over your capital that only generosity can bring. Ask God where and how you can give of your time and money, and He will lead you to this freedom.
Right Now Reminder:
Ask the Lord what generosity looks like for you right now. He is faithful to provide for you and is ready to work through you to bless others.
